Netflix has come a long way since its inception as a DVD-by-mail service. Launched in 1998 by Marc Randolph and Reed Hastings, the company was the first DVD rental and sales site.
Currently, Netflix operates as a streaming service. According to Comparitech, Netflix has largest customer base in the streaming industry — and that’s not counting the estimated 41% of viewers who access the service without a subscription via password sharing.
With recent hits like Squid Game and Clickbait, Netflix has also had success with its original content, which is only accessible through its service.
How to exit Netflix on TV
According to Insider, most devices — streaming sticks, game consoles, and smart TVs — run the same Netflix app. This means you can use the same steps to sign out, regardless of how you access the service.
After opening the app and selecting a user profile, you can use the left arrow on the remote control or the game controller’s joystick to open the Netflix sidebar menu.
After successfully opening the sidebar, you will see an option titled “Get Help.” Maybe near the bottom. Select this option.
On the “Get Help” menu, there should be a “Sign Out” option. Select this option.
The app may ask you to confirm that you want to sign out. Then, you will be moved to the “Getting Started” menu.

How to log out of Netflix remotely
If you need to sign out of Netflix on a device that isn’t nearby, rest assured. Just because you’re away from the TV doesn’t mean you can’t protect your account.
After signing in to Netflix on the website or mobile app, you may need to select a user profile before arriving on the Netflix home screen.
Once on the home screen, select your profile icon in the top right corner. It might look like the default Netflix smiley face, or it might be the picture you chose for your profile. If you’re on a computer, you may just need to hover over the icon to access the drop-down menu.
Now you can see the list of users and the “Accounts” button, and the Help Center, select “Accounts.”
On the Account menu, scroll down to “Settings.” Select “sign out of all devices”. Netflix may ask you to confirm that you want to complete this task.
After confirmation, any device you used for Netflix will no longer be signed in.
