The 6 Best Game-Related Disclosures From Netflix Geeked Week, According to Reddit

While there are no more E3 presentations this year, shows like Xbox + Bethesda, PlayStation State of Play, and even Netflix’s second Geeked Week have helped fill the void in the gaming space. While the previous show was expected to be dedicated to the media, Geeked Week did provide some very interesting updates on the video game adaptation.

Fans on Reddit commented on their favorite announcement, with Netflix’s animated offering garnering the most enthusiasm. Considering the success of people like Castlevania, Inner, DOTA: Dragon Bloodand more, Netflix has made game adaptations thrive in animation.

Castlevania: Nocturne

Richter Belmont in Castlevania: Nocturne

Even if IP owner and publisher Konami had abandoned his beloved franchise, Castlevania recently enjoyed great success on Netflix. Powerhouse Animation Studios has put an inventive spin on this rich dark fantasy world that is simultaneously true to the essence of video games. After season 4 of the original series finished last year, an announcement followed Castlevania: Nocturne will be the sequel after Richter Belmont’s exploits set against the backdrop of the French Revolution.

In terms of animation, it’s arguably one of the biggest revelations from the Netflix TV front of Geeked Week, providing a peek at the new protagonist. redditor dagreenman18 excited by the Richter-inspired design, exclaiming, “Come on, come on! [Rondo of Blood] and [Symphony of the Night] makes sense. Give them enough time after Trevor and can let them make some adjustments if necessary.”

DOTA: Dragons Blood Season 3

Still of MIrana directs his bow and arrow in DOTA: Dragon's Blood Book 3.

Following success Castlevania, Netflix has highlighted more anime-inspired series based on popular video game IPs. valve DOTA: Dragon Blood is one of them, and although its success is more moderate in comparison, it remains positive overall.

Surprisingly, Netflix’s Geeked Week not only revealed the third season of the green light, but also announced an August 11 premiere date even though season 2 was only just released in January. Fans have been feeling mixed emotions, as the pace is too fast, but Redditors love it eXePyrowolf still expressed excitement over the quick release, saying “Wow not even a teaser, just two pictures. Well, I’ll take the release date, it’s not that far off!”

Dragon Age: Absolution

During the golden age of game developer BioWare, Dragon Age The series consists of some of the team’s best games. And to further reinforce Netflix’s insistence on animated game adaptations, Geeked Week has a surprise reveal Dragon Age: Absolution coming this December and animated by one of the studios behind The Witch: Wolf’s Nightmare.

Granted there’s some concern here too given the general art direction of the studios involved, but there are still fans who are optimistic about what this world can bring for TV animation. redditor yogiho2 said “It looks good. If there was a universe [deserves an] Dragon Age animated series.” Dragon Age known for its exciting mix of high fantasy and dark across its vast world, as well as its diverse cast of characters with branching storylines.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

Cyberpunk Edgerunners promo for Netflix featuring the protagonist

CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 was probably one of the most disastrous video game launches in recent memory, and although it took more than a year and a half to fix, it has since developed into a stable and solid RPG experience. Apart from the video game space, the publisher/developer wants to expand this new IP into TV anime in the form of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners with the help of Studio Trigger.

Anime studios have a good reputation among fans, with Redditors docarwell affectionately says, “Love me some TRIGGER. So much style and it’s always fun, even if it turns into a stupid mess (in space).” Considering Trigger’s work on the likes of Kill it Kill and promarefans will hope Cyberpunk: Edgerunners does not turn into a cheap marketing effort.

Tekken: Bloodline

Still of Jin battles King in Tekken: Bloodline.

Fighting game franchise adaptations are notoriously bad in many cases (in part because of live-action projects), but anime seems like a good fit for something like tekken. Like most fighting game series, tekken defined by over-the-top and bombastic action coupled with melodramatic characters and stories. That being said, those are some of the parts that make tekken series of some of the best fighting games.

Geeked Week still hasn’t given a release date for Tekken: Bloodline, but game producer Katsuhiro Harada did appear to present some exclusive clips. redditor SnooDogs7868 happy with IP’s direction in general, saying “Tekken needs more content across the board. Namco should see how Warner Brothers and DC take advantage of [on] various Batman adaptations. Tekken should be in every flavor for every age group. This is a step in the right direction.”

Cuphead Show! Season 2

MDHR’s studio cup head easily became an indie sensation when it launched in 2017, and it looks like 2022 will see the franchise expand even further. The highly anticipated DLC expansion Delicious Last Course finally set for a June 30 release date, and Netflix Cuphead Show! It was revealed to get a second season coming on August 19th. Similar to DOTA: Dragon Bloodit’s surprising to see season 2 get a release date so quickly, as the show premiered its first season last February.

The game is acclaimed for its brand of addictive run-and-gun gameplay combined with a 20s-era cartoon aesthetic, as well as its witty humour. Cuphead Show! season 1 received a fairly positive reception, with fans like Redditor TheBigIdiotGreetings saying “I guess I’ll be the one to get excited about this. I think it’s a riot,” and Investing_G said “Didn’t expect this show to be so trippy. Excited for this.”
