Sony Remote Not Working? Try This Fix

You host a movie night in your home on a Sony Smart TV. Everything is sorted but just as you try to turn on the TV, your Sony remote control gives up.

There are many reasons to blame. For example, not having internet access could be one of them. Or, maybe your remote’s battery life has run out. Likewise, it could be some other reason why this is happening.

But, you can fix it quite easily. You can start by making sure your internet connection is solid. Then, try changing the battery and check if the Sony remote is working. If not, you can take a look at the fixes we’ve brought to help you.

Why Is My Sony Remote Not Working?

There are many reasons behind the inefficiency of Sony’s remote control. Some of them are:

  • The battery on the remote control is depleted.
  • The TV cannot read/receive infrared signals from the remote control.
  • The buttons on the remote are stuck due to continuous or reckless use.
  • Several other wireless infrared devices are causing the problem.
  • Bluetooth on the TV is turned off, so the remote voice command feature cannot work.
  • TV and remote control not paired.
  • You have not activated the MIC button.
  • Sony Smart TV software update is pending.

How to Correctly Repair Sony Remote Control

The TV requires an internet connection for the remote control to work. Once you’ve solved that, check if the battery in your remote control isn’t dead yet. You can check if the battery is depleted by inserting the remote’s battery into another device.

Then, you’ll know if it’s time to replace it with a new one. If that doesn’t help, remove the battery from the remote. Let it sit for about 10 minutes before you put it back in. Somehow, this worked for a lot of people.

However, if you are having trouble trying to repair your Sony remote control, you can try the fixes listed.

Check Sony Remote Button

Certain buttons on your Sony remote control may need to be pressed hard. Likewise, if the button is stuck, you can release it by keeping it pressed repeatedly.

If you still sense something wrong with your remote control, you can also assess the infrared signal.

  1. Use your camera or smartphone camera.
  2. Turn on the camera and place the remote in front of it. The remote infrared light emitter must be pointed at the camera.
  3. Press any button on the remote.
  4. Look at the camera screen.Sony . Remote IR Transmitter Test

Notes: When using a smartphone camera, it should not be a camera that filters infrared light.

If you see a light on the screen, the remote control sends infrared light to the TV. Also, press the button that you don’t think is working. This will help to find out if there is a problem with a particular button.

TV Performance Test

The problem is not always in the remote. Sometimes, the TV may have difficulty reading the remote signal. So, try to find out if the TV unlocks after pressing the power button on it.

If the TV buttons don’t work, check if the standby light is on. If you don’t see the standby light, check that the TV is plugged into a power source.

Power Reset TV

Resetting the TV power will not change the customized settings. You can do this with the steps below.

  1. Unplug the TV power cord from the power source.
  2. Now, press the TV’s power button. Then, wait about 2 minutes.
  3. Plug the TV power cord back into a power source.

After you reset the TV power, use the Sony remote to see if the problem is solved.

Clear Line of Sight

There should be a clear path for your TV to pick up the infrared signal from the remote. Items near your TV can block the infrared light sent by your remote. So, avoid storing different objects around your TV and shelves. You can also shorten the distance between the TV and the remote control.

Also, if there are other wireless infrared devices, keep them away from the TV.
