As you’d expect from a film like this, the trailer is upbeat, colorful, and very family-oriented. Andy Garcia as Billy, the bride’s titular father, seems surprised when his daughter Sofia (Arjona) visits and tells him that she proposed and is now engaged to Adan (Boneta). Initial confusion and disapproval gives way to more chaos when an over-the-top, eccentric wedding planner is introduced to the girl’s family. If you’ve seen the 1991 adaptation, then you’re bound to associate this character with Martin Short’s Franck Eggelhoffer.

There are also some emotional angles thrown in here and there as most family films do. One of the standout moments is the strained relationship between Billy and Ingrid (Estefan) which they try to hide from their daughter, lest it hinder her big day. But as the story progresses, it’s possible (or as the trailer suggests) that parents will also learn to mend their relationship. Overall, the trailer promises that Father of the Bride would make for a fun and easy viewing, and perfect for watching movies on the weekends.

What is the Father of the Bride About?

The original novel by Edward Streeter details the universal experience that every father goes through when their child/children especially a daughter is about to get married. It explains how they deal with their growth and become different people with new ideas and ways of living, which are far from the usual traditions of their father.

This film explores the same theme and its essence lies in the name. It has to do with being the father of the bride-to-be. Father of the Bride is what it is meant to be – an emotional journey of a father that will walk his daughter down the aisle, but presented in the cutest and most dramatic way possible. It’s about how every bride’s father protects their little girl and thinks they know their daughter is like no other and what they want is the best for their child. The film is also about how a father learns to adapt to changing societal norms, evolving times, and their child’s personality as they grow up.

Father of the Bride explores universal themes of parent-child relationships, generation gaps, and how parents learn to let go of conventions for their children. Even though this is a new twist on an old story, the essence of the story remains unchanged. And that’s exactly what you should expect from this film.
