After the successful cinema release of Top Weapon Maverick, I wonder about all the other movie sequels that took so long to release. Nowadays it feels like film franchises are popping up everywhere, but there are some iconic sequels that take a long time from their predecessors.

Welcome back to another Gizmodo Movie Night, this week we’ve picked five sequels that are taking too long to release.

Let’s dive in, shall we?

Avatar: Water Way

Yes, I know, technically Avatars the sequel isn’t out yet, but that means we’ll have to wait a little longer.

Arguably the most famous film in the world (hate it or love it), Avatars was released in 2009 with tremendous success and has dominated the global charts ever since.

Even though no one really asked Avatars sequel, we get one… 13 years later. Talk about a sequel taking too long to come out.

We also got four more movies, so that was fun for us, again, nobody asked for that much Avatars film.

I mean, hey, I want to see how technological advances in the film industry have helped bring Avatars Entering 2022. You can already tell that the visuals will be stunning just by watching the trailer.

Incredible 2

One of the best animated films ever made came out in 2004. Yes, I’m talking about Outstanding.

Then 14 years later, we were blessed with another brilliant animated film, The Extraordinary 2.

Some might think that Outstanding the sequel is taking too long to come out, but there’s actually a pretty valid reason why we had to wait 14 years for it.

Based on IGN, Outstanding writer-director Brad Bird said the reason for the big difference between the two films was that they wanted to wait for a good storyline. He also said that the creative team didn’t want to just make a sequel for the sake of making a sequel for the money.

Honestly, I’m glad it took so long to come out because it gave us all time to appreciate Outstanding, but also brings animation into a new decade with a great storyline that feels like the original, yet gives us something new to work on.

Sword Runner 2049

In terms of a movie sequel taking too long to come out, I think everyone will agree on that Sword Runner 2049 take the cake.

35 years how long? Sword Runner lovers will have to wait before they can watch the sequel movie. It was a very long time to wait to sit there in anticipation.

To be fair, the movie itself To do lasts 30 years after the original, but it’s also an easy way to bring the film into a modern context.

There doesn’t seem to be much of a reason why this sequel took so long other than the fact that they wanted to squeeze it out for a newer audience.

Some people also think that 35 years is a long time to wait for a sequel which finally let them down.

I didn’t live the first time Sword Runner out, so I’m not a hardcore booth with the original. But watching Sword Runner 2049 actually a pretty good experience. I really enjoyed the cinematography and the technological revolution of the film from the original.

Mad Max Fury Road 2015

Would it count as a sequel if it was a return visit after the trilogy was made?

However, Mad Max: Fury Street made the list because, wowza, this sequel took a long time to come out.

Not only that Mad Max: Fury Street Released 30 years after the last film, the film itself has apparently spent a long time in production for various reasons.

There are too many things to mention about what went wrong with trying to make this film. I mean, there’s a whole Wikipedia a section detailing all the problems they’ve had for 25 years.

I think waiting for this sequel is worth it because Mad Max: Fury Street absolutely incredible and one of the most exhilarating films I have ever seen.

Jurassic World 2015

While the most recent Jurassic World just released in theaters, the gap between the latter jurassic park 2015 series and sequel is very extensive.

14 years may not be a long time to wait, but for many people jurassic park sweetheart, that’s very long.

Some might think that having a franchise sequel is unnecessary, but it’s only a matter of time before it’s made with all the new advances.

In fairness, I think Jurassic World is a fine film that provides a new update on the iconic franchise. It was cool to see the dinosaurs in a much better resolution than the original.

Should it be a standalone sequel? Maybe, but that’s not what we’re going to talk about here.
